Rethymno has rightly the title of the “Town of Letters and Arts” and supports any expression of culture.
One of the most important events of Greece is the Carnaval in Rethymno, that takes place every year with great care and inspiration. There are 48 groups and 30 vehicles of 7.000 participants and every year the number is getting bigger. The songs, the parties of all the groups and the events like the “Hunt of the Golden Treasure”, the Tsiknopempti at Rethymno (Thursday of the Meat), the Night Parade e.t.c. are helping the visitors to feel part of the town.
The Medieval Festival is 25 years old and is taking place in the castle of Fortezza and in Venetian Churches, Minarets, streets and squares of the town of Rethymno. Its aim is to operate as the centre of the revival of Science and Art between the people of Mediterranean, the Balkan area and Europe.
The pathway of Psiloritis (Ida)

You’ll watch people preparing the famous cheese feta and mizithra.
